MACC Trustee Leadership Conference
January 24, 2011 (Annapolis, MD) - MACC held its annual Trustee Leadership Conference and Legislative Reception at the Calvert House on State Circle, where community college boards and campus leaders convened to share best practices in advocating for community colleges and ensuring student success.
MACC President and Chair of the Anne Arundel Board, Dr. James H. Johnson, Jr., presided at the opening luncheon. Student speakers Jack Poteet-Zapata from CCBC and Mark Inda from PGCC shared their personal journeys that led them to enroll at their respective colleges and their plans for the future.
Dr. Carol Eaton, Chair of the Presidents Council introduced the keynote speaker, the President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, Dr. Walter Bumphus, who gave an overview of his vision for community colleges and AACC.
The group then attended breakout sessions on completion, funding, advocacy, and higher education law. Click to download presentations:

In the general session, Dr. Carol Eaton and MACC Executive Director Clay Whitlow gave an overview of MACC's Legislative Agenda .
The evening reception brought the trustees and college staff together with members of the General Assembly and executive branch officials in attendance, including Lt. Governor Anthony Brown and House Speaker Mike Busch.
