Student Profile: Sydney Parks
Former ESSENCE Student at Hagerstown Community College
Sydney Parks graduated this spring from Boonsboro High School with 12 college credits already under her belt. She will transfer those credits to Baruch College in Manhattan this fall, where she plans to major in pre-med.
Through the ESSENCE Program at Hagerstown Community College, Parks was able to complete four college-level courses while still in high school.
“I liked HCC’s ESSENCE Program because it saved me money and helped me become more independent,” Parks said. “I took an online class and that really helped me with my time management skills.”
She says the grading and classwork were slightly more challenging than high school classes, which was a “wake-up call” for her as she prepares to become a college freshman.
“I would definitely recommend the ESSENCE Program to other high school students who are looking to get a head start on college,” she said.
