Student Profile: Drew Yoder
Drew Yoder is an Allegany College of Maryland “early college” student who graduated from Meyersdale Area High School in May and is excited to be able to continue his education through the Somerset County Campus upon graduation. Drew had already earned nine college credits from Allegany before he graduated. He has taken Psychology, Speech Communication, and Sociology all through the Early College program. Drew is also a member of the Red Raider wrestling and track teams. He is a member of the Tech Ed club and SADD clubs, is a student tutor, and is President of the Art Club. Drew enjoys hunting and making pottery and attends Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church and youth group. Drew currently works in the summer at Italian Landscaping in Garrett County, Maryland.
Drew decided to take Early College classes through ACM because he knew that many of these classes were going to be necessary in obtaining his degree. He would encourage more students to enroll in Early College courses because, “They are not as expensive when you take them as a high school student and it has been nice to take these classes with my peers and, most times, with instructors that I know. This makes it a more comfortable environment.” Drew’s favorite Early College class was Psychology because he enjoyed studying how people think and why.
Drew plans to enroll in the Physical Therapy Assistant program when he begins classes at the Somerset County Campus this coming fall semester. He chose ACM because they offer small class sizes compared to larger universities. He also likes that, “The campus is close to home and the health related programs at ACM seem very solid.”
